Hypnotic, eerie and completely engrossing – Mark Jenkin, one of the UK’s most distinctive filmmakers, returns with a freaky folktale washed in from the wild Cornish coast.

The Rose of Nevada, a fishing boat lost with all hands 30 years ago, mysteriously reappears in the old harbour of a forgotten Cornish village. For those who remember the tragedy, it’s surely a sign. The boat must go out to sea again – and maybe then the luck of the devastated village will turn.

Young father Nick and enigmatic newcomer Liam join captain Murgey, and they head to sea. But when they return, satisfied with their haul, something is amiss – they’ve slipped back in time, and the villagers greet them as if they are the boat’s original crew.

Rose of Nevada is Cornish filmmaker Mark Jenkin’s hotly anticipated and critically acclaimed follow-up to his BAFTA-award-winning debut, Bait (2019) and his unforgettable and unclassifiable second feature, Enys Men (2022). Unique among British feature filmmakers for his handcrafted and analogue approach, Jenkin once again creates a truly singular cinematic experience, serving as the film’s director, writer, director of photography, editor, sound designer and composer.

“Block book a week in the diary to discuss the film’s many secret meanings and messages.” – Little White Lies ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
