SUMMARY:Grupo Lokito: Congolese Dance Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Grupo Lokito for a dance workshop with the live band. Iddo Donnatella\, singer and dancer with the band\, will guide you through the basics of Congolese dance\, with its distinctive hip movements. They will then teach you some of the classic Congolese dance moves and share some of Grupo Lokito’s own inventions. The perfect warm up before dancing the night away at their performance later in the evening. \nAll levels welcome. We want this to be accessible for all\, if you have any access requirements please contact The Vale to let a member of the team know prior to the event. \nTickets for the dance workshop are £7.50. A combined workshop and gig ticket are available on the Grupo Lokito event page. There are also a limited number of ‘donate what you can’ tickets available on a first come first served basis. Live entertainment at its best.’ – Chilli Fiesta \nThe Vale is delighted to welcome the dazzling Grupo Lokito who fuse contemporary Congolese and Cuban music creating a modern day cocktail of two of the great world musics. \nThe glorious melodious vocals of Congolese front men Eugene Makuta and Iddo Donnatell blend with soaring guitars courtesy of guitarists Kenyan rising star Shama Shah and Congolese legend Ladi Mbala and the lilting keyboards of Latin piano player Sara McGuinness. All of this sits on top of the rhythmic powerhouse of Ernesto Marichales(drums)\, Emeris Solis (Congas) and Jimmy Martinez (Bass). \nSince their formation in 2006 the band have gone from strength to strength\, completing several UK tours and building a solid following. As if the groove weren’t enough\, the band have developed a rapport with their audiences which gets everyone up on their feet. This was reflected in the band being names ‘Tropical Act of The Year 2017’ by the UK Lukas Awards. \nWant to get involved yourself? Grupo Lokito will be running a Congolese dance workshop before the show! DESCRIPTION:Free Open Studio Sessions at The Vale\nEvery Wednesday from 1.00pm to 3.00pm\, The Vale opens up its studio spaces for artists and creatives to use completely free of charge. \nThese open sessions are designed to support creative practice in all its forms. Whether you are a sewer looking for access to a machine\, a sculptor needing space to spread out\, a musician in search of a quiet room to rehearse\, or a henna artist wanting somewhere comfortable to practise and develop your work\, you are very welcome here. \nThe atmosphere is relaxed and supportive\, offering time and space to focus\, experiment and make progress on your work. You can work independently\, or alongside other creatives\, sharing energy\, ideas and inspiration in a welcoming environment. \nIf you would like to use the space\, simply get in touch at hello@the-vale.co.uk to let us know what you need the studio for. Along the way\, she has collaborated with other artists\, groups\, and organizations such as Sheba Arts\, Commonword\, and Expression Manchester. She has played at multiple venues and festivals in the region\, including a recent headline gig at Band On the Wall. Naomi has had annual performances at Sheba Arts Festivals from 2021 to 2024\, as well as jam sessions at NIAMOS Radical Arts Center\, Jam Street\, and other bars and locations across Greater Manchester. \nNaomi Kalu takes inspiration from a plethora of artists\, from Tracy Chapman to Frank Ocean\, playing both acoustically and electrically\, with a love for lyricism and imagery.
