SUMMARY:Arun Ghosh + support from Coruja Jones
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning clarinettist Arun Ghosh comes to The Vale for a night of feelgood music from across his five acclaimed albums. \nThe Bolton musician and composer is a leading light on the UK jazz scene\, and is considered a renowned innovator of modern IndoJazz. His band deliver a passionate sound\, driven by soaring melodies\, hypnotic rhythms and transcendental textures. \nSometimes evocative and introspective\, other times searing and effervescent…the music is brought to life\, and given breath by Arun’s uniquely expressive clarinet playing and style\, vibrancy and spirit. \nArun\, just back from a world tour with international sitarist Anoushka Shankar\, is delighted and excited to return to the North\, for this rare and special show of his own music\, with his long-time Mancunian musical comrades. \nTwice winner of Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year\, Arun is a charismatic and communicative performer. These shows are startling\, spontaneous and moving events…and so this is a gig not to be missed! \n“Life-affirming music that transcends cultural barriers.” –  Manchester Evening News \nLocal support comes from Coruja Jones: \n \nCoruja Jones writes beautiful songs with soaring high notes\, combined with intricate\, delicate guitar work into cavernous reverbs\, which take aim at your heart. His latest record ‘Undo’ delves into the healing process in different forms and was produced by Sam Vicary (The Cinematic Orchestra). \nHe has been championed by the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson and toured with Grammy award winning singer-songwriter Joe Jackson. \n“Deft and assured” – Tom Robinson (BBC6 Music) \nPlease note this event has an age restriction of 14+\nUnder 18s must be accompanied by an adult.\nDoors 7:30pm \nTickets £15* \n*A limited number of donate what you can tickets are available on a first come first served basis. SUMMARY:Sunday Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 18th January\nJoin us for an afternoon of fabulous live music at The Vale as part of our Monthly Sunday Sessions 1pm – 4pm. \nA relaxed afternoon of excellent live music in a welcome environment perfect for the whole family. Grab a drink from the bar\, bring some pals\, your kids\, sit and listen or maybe even join our house band for a number or two. And best of all its free! We hope to see you there! \nIf you’re interested in playing at our Sunday sessions then please do get in touch as we’d love to hear from you! \nOur house musicians will be playing a mixture of Latin and Brazilian vibes with an informal ‘Pagode’ style set with a unique Mossley flavour.  Pagode is a type of samba originating in Rio de Janeiro\, Brazil. Distinguished by rhythmic improvisation\, its acoustic sound is created using a variety of percussion instruments\, song and string instruments such as Cavaquinho and guitar. \nWith special guests Laura Smyth and Ted Kemp\n \nAs interpreters of traditional English folk\, Mossley based Laura and Ted breathe life into old songs found in archival manuscripts\, recordings and broadside ballads\, as well as their own compositions inspired by folklore and local legends. They take a no-nonsense approach to their arrangements with uncompromising acapella harmonies or stripped-back accompaniments on banjo\, cello\, concertina\, and guitar\, allowing the songs to shine through. Their album “The Poacher’s Fate” was met with critical acclaim\, being short-listed for album of the year by FRoots magazine\, and described as “…destined to become one of the most important releases of the year” in RnR.

SUMMARY:Sunday Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 12th April\nJoin us for an afternoon of fabulous live music at The Vale as part of our Monthly Sunday Sessions 1pm – 4pm. \nThis month’s special guest: Stephen Evans. \n \nFormerly of local band Cabbage\, Stephen now writes and records ‘jangly\, discordant’ pop music under the moniker prrsr. Expect an acoustic set of songs from this project\, along with others from previous bands including The Planets and ZX+.
