SUMMARY:Bike Generator Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 25th January 2026 & Sunday 1st Feb 2-4pm 2026 \nHave you seen pedal powered speakers and always wondered how they work? \nDo you want to make your own system to charge small items or generate power? \nWe’d love to work with you on a one off two session workshop exploring how to make a bicycle generator to charge items with pedal power! \nGlobal Grooves who run The Vale have lots of adapted items e.g lasers and lights which are now battery operated and we need an efficient and sustainable way to charge these on site at events. With the help of a Saddleworth Community Hydro grant we’re going to make 2 bike powered charges and we want you to be involved. \n\n\nWeek 1 – A solution finding and design session\, to plan how to create a bike generator in the next session. May involve sketching\, brainstorming\, creating a team plan. \n\nWeek 2 – Will be about making\, building and problem solving. At the end of this session we should have a working prototype. We aim to generate some electricity via pedal power and have a list of tweaks to improve the technology. \nSign up for free here (maximum 10 attendees per session). Ideally attending both sessions to get the most out of them. This partnership is poised to enchant traditional folk purists and new seekers alike\, promising a fresh\, exhilarating spin on folk music’s timeless tales \n“A marvel” – Mojo magazine \n “Utterly haunting” – Songlines.  \n \nPlease note this event has an age restriction of 14+ \nUnder 18s must be accompanied by an adult. \nDoors 7:30pm \nTickets £15.50* \nUnreserved seated \n*A limited number of donate what you can tickets are available on a first come first served basis. SUMMARY:John Bramwell (of I Am Kloot)
DESCRIPTION:“There’s a line in the E.E. Cummings poem ‘Somewhere I Have Never Travelled\, Gladly Beyond’ which goes ‘No one\, not even the rain\, has such small hands’ which I paraphrased to ‘Nothing can wash this away\, not even the rain’ –– I’ve always loved that imagery and intrigue… I’ve never been a realist\, the magic and mystery is where my heart lies and where my mind wonders…” John Bramwell. \nAs the singer in I Am Kloot from 1999 to 2014\, John Bramwell achieved a Mercury Prize nomination for 2010’s The Sky At Night\, a Top 10 chart position for 2013’s Let It All In\, numerous UK and European tours and a triumphant farewell at the Queen Elizabeth Hall with an orchestra in 2014. Now\, as a solo artist\, Bramwell travels the length and breadth of the UK. taking his heartwarming songs to the stage and enjoying another moment in time with his devoted fans. \nThe stunning 2023 sophomore solo album\, The Light Fantastic was an almost complete u-turn from the I Am Kloot outlook they were known for. Darker clouds banished and in replacement strings\, four-part harmonies and a dozen gloriously exhilarating\, beautifully crafted and observed songs about life\, humanity\, the universe and everything. As John put it\, “It’s been great to find the joy of making music once again. These are the most uplifting songs of my career.” \nBramwell’s razor sharp wit\, refreshingly true (and often hilarious) observations and instantly recognisable haunting vocal channelled through some of the most honest and direct songwriting of our times has seen Bramwell championed in rave reviews\, time after time. \n \n\nPraise for The Light Fantastic: \n‘The regular harmonising with his cast of supporting musicians is especially beautiful’ CLASH\n‘Wonderfully grown-up pop music delivered by an adept songwriter’ – 4* MOJO\n‘This is hazy music\, with purpose\, and very pretty with it.’ – 4* The Times\n‘A splendid solo set of sumptuous vocal harmonies’ – UNCUT \n‘A unique voice both literally and metaphorically’ – Lauren Laverne\n‘Bramwell’s new songs are spellbinding’ – The Guardian\n‘My favourite songwriter of all time’ – Cate Blanchett \n‘The UK’s finest export’ – New York Times \n\n\n \n\nPlease note this event has an age restriction of 14+ \nUnder 18s must be accompanied by an adult. \nDoors 7:30pm \nTickets: Seated £25* \nThis is a seated event with a mix of raked seating and step-free seating at ground level. SUMMARY:Mr B's Probably Accurate Hip Hop History Tour + Gideon Conn
DESCRIPTION:After years of twisting Hip-Hop to his Chap-Hop will\, Mr.B finally brings you the full story of Rap as only he can tell it – Straight Out Of Surrey. \nMr.B invented Chap-Hop in 2007\, having spent years as a Britrap hitmaker (anyone remember ‘Eat My Goal’?) and performing with such luminaries as Grandmaster Flash and Gravediggaz. Since then he has travelled the world\, from The Royal Albert Hall to Osaka\, Banstead to Berlin\, Manchester to Minneapolis\, Norway to New York and the Edinburgh Fringe to Glastonbury. \nThe album accompanying this tour will be his fifteenth. His videos have garnered millions of views on YouTube and his media appearances have included rapping for Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight\, playing live on BBC Radio One for Rob Da Bank\, Nick Grimshaw & Scott Mills\, on Radio Two for Claudia Winkleman & Steve Lamacq\, 6 Music for Tom Robinson & Shaun Keaveny\, Radio Four with Diane Morgan\, discussing Hip-Hop on Romesh Ranganathan’s podcast and rhyming for Zoe Ball on Sky Arts. \nEqual parts rapper\, banjolele maverick\, storyteller\, beatmaker and dandy\, his ‘Probably Accurate Hip-Hop History Show’ is packed with interpretations of rap favourites and original songs. It will amaze with previously unknown facts\, stories\, fly dancing and maybe just a bit of guessing. \nMr.B always entertains\, educates and informs…and sometimes slightly fibs. \n \n  \n\n‘Hip-Hop comedy genius’ – The Telegraph \n‘Hilarious’ – The Independent \n‘The Home Service meets Run DMC’ – Evening Standard \n‘Warm\, funny\, articulate and quietly very angry’ – Something Good \n‘Too funny and dope’ – Nile Rodgers (Chic) \nSupporting Mr B will be Manchester’s Gideon Conn\, who brings his unmistakable blend of jazz\, soul\, hip hop and hard musical nonsense to The Vale. Now two decades into a constantly evolving career\, his sharp songwriting is fuelled by everyday observations\, often gathered during shifts at the hardware store where he still works part‑time. With a fifth album on the horizon\, expect a set full of warmth\, wit and genre‑skipping creativity. \n \nPlease note this event has an age restriction of 14+ \n\nUnder 18s must be accompanied by an adult. \nDoors 7:30pm \nTickets: £18* \nThis is a standing show\, however we can provide a limited number of seats for those who need them. SUMMARY:Transglobal Underground + support
DESCRIPTION:Few acts in the UK can demonstrate such a profound influence\, a multifaceted legacy\, and carry such a mysterious legendary status as Transglobal Underground. \nFrom their origins in the dance scene in the early 90s they became one of the country’s best loved festival bands\, a techno sound system\, a pop group\, a club night\, a Middle Eastern hit production team\, an improvised study group for Indian classical music\, an Albanian brass band\, a duo..or was it an octet?… \nTransglobal Underground exploded onto the club scene with the club classic ‘Temple Head’ a track with inspiration taken from the UK bhangra scene\, with one foot in the Madchester and indie worlds\, and another in club music. The mix was totally new (DJs loved it but couldn’t work out what speed to play it at) and the track is still regularly played on the radio today. \nThe collective went on to practically create a new genre with a series of albums mixing a heady concoction of club grooves\, dub\, bhangra\, rock\, digital hardcore and oriental melody\, driven by the possibilities of musical technology\, inspiration and a belief in the need to create something that kept others looking for the next level of global experimentation. \nMore than 30 years on\, Transglobal Underground continues to fill venues across Europe\,and we can’t wait to welcome them to The Vale this November! \nLineup \nTUUP: Vocalist\, percussionist\, one of the UK’s leading storytellers \nHAMID MANTU: founder member\, drums\, percussion \nSHEEMA MUKHERJEE: sitar\, bass (Cornershop\, Imagined Village) \nRAV NEIYYAR: tabla\, dhol (Bollywood Band\, Diamond Cut) \nTIM WHELAN: founder member\, keyboards\, machines \n \n“The collisions are as glorious as ever….swaggering … a classic TGU mix of soul\, rap\,\nelectronica and bliss” – FINANCIAL TIMES \n“The Brit-Asian collective boldy go where no psychedelic\, drum and bass\, funk\, punk\, dub\, global beatists have gone before” – INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY \n“The most irresitable rhythms to which anyone with soul can dance”- THE TIMES \n“This musical collective have dipped in and out of fashion\, but the new album finds them on inventive form” – GUARDIAN \n“A pan-European journey you’ll want to embark on at length” – SONGLINES\n \nPlease note this event has an age restriction of 14+ \nUnder 18s must be accompanied by an adult. \nDoors 7:30pm \nTickets: £20* \nThis is a standing event with accessible seating.
